Volunteer at LearningWorks
Interested in working with immigrants and refugees? You can teach small group basic English classes as part of our English Language program. Classes happen M-Th from 9-11 and 1-3. OR if you’d be more like to work one-on-one, you can become a literacy volunteer and tutor a non-native speaker once a week. Or become a "culture coach" by mentoring an immigrant through their transition to this country.
Looking to support at-risk youth? Get involved with our alternative high school students by serving as a GED tutor, driving students to take the test, becoming a mentor, or offering up a service opportunity.
Want to teach young children? Work with the Afterschool program and help the teachers provide extended day enrichment for elementary-age kids who are struggling in school.
Interested in making a long-term impact? Develop a special relationship with an individual student by becoming a Literacy Volunteer and tutoring an adult learner one-on-one or becoming a mentor for a student in need of extra support.
Available only in the evenings and weekends? Help high school and adult students with homework at the Study Center on a weekday evening from 6-8pm. OR set your own schedule as literacy tutor or mentor.
Are you looking for a way to give back but aren’t sure what is the best fit for you talents? Contact Nancy Sewall at 207-775-0105 to discuss our many volunteer opportunities
All volunteers are required to fill out an application and undergo a background check. |
